Leatherback Sea Turtle Lays 120 Eggs after New Year in Phang Nga – Video

A leather back sea turtle laid 120 eggs on a beach in the Thai Mueang district as a perfect New Year’s gift.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that on Tuesday (January 2nd) early in the morning a mother leatherback sea turtle laid eggs on a beach in the Khao Lampi-Hat Thai Mueang National Park Area.

The DMCR found the leatherback sea turtle nest with 120 eggs, of those, 78 were fertile eggs. The eggs were relocated to a safer area on the beach where sea water could not reach the nest. The DMCR officials stated that in about 60 days that baby leatherback sea turtles will hatch.

It is the first mother leather back sea turtle that laid eggs in Phang Nga this year.
