Massive Leatherback Sea Turtle Lays 139 Eggs on Beach in Phang Nga

The biggest mother leather back sea turtle of the year in Phang Nga laid 139 eggs on a beach in Phang Nga.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that on Friday (December 30th) a mother leatherback sea turtle laid eggs on a beach in the Khao Lampi-Hat Thai Mueang National Park Area. The DMCR found the leatherback sea turtle nest with 139 eggs, Of those, 102 were fertile eggs.

This is the biggest mother leather back sea turtle of the year in Phang Nga. It is the fourth mother leatherback sea turtle which laid eggs in the Khao Lampi-Hat Thai Mueang National Park and the fifth mother leather back sea turtle that laid eggs in Phang Nga.

The eggs were relocated to a safer area on the beach where sea water could not reach the nest. The DMCR officials stated that in about 60 days that baby leatherback sea turtles will hatch.
