Patong –
Phuket Immigration inspected a barber shop in Patong after they were notified by a concerned citizen that there was allegedly a foreigner working there illegally.
Phuket Immigration told the Phuket Express that on Wednesday (December 6th) they and officers from the Phuket Employment Office inspected a barber shop in Soi Saen Sabai. The inspection came after Phuket Immigration was notified by a concerned citizen via an online channel that there was a foreigner allegedly illegally working at the barber shop.
When they arrived at the barber shop, they found two Thai nationals who were cutting hair for customers. There were no foreigners working.
Staffers at the barber shop told officers that the picture that they received online was an old photo. There was a foreigner working at the barber shop before, they admitted. However, the foreigner was arrested for working illegally.
The barber shop has been renovated which now looks different from the old photo. Now there are only two Thai workers at the barber shop with no foreigners working there, they said.
The Phuket Express notes that hair stylists are protected occupations in Thailand and a work permit and visa is unavailable for foreigners for this job.
