The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top local stories in our area of Phuket from the past week. The number of stories differs from week to week.

These are chosen and curated by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed. We publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in the Phuket province.

They are in no particular order of importance but roughly in order of publishing. These are from Monday, November 27th to Sunday December 3rd, 2023. 

1. A missing Russian man was found dead after a road accident in Karon.

Phuket police expressed their condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.

2. The Phuket Tourist Police inspected a tour booth in Patong after they were notified by concerned citizens that a Russian was allegedly working illegally selling tour packages.

However, police did not find any foreigner selling tour packages at the tour booth but said they would keep an eye on the booth in question.

3. A Chinese woman was arrested after she was found illegally asking for money from people in Patong.

Thai authorities have been cracking down on foreign beggars across the Kingdom.

4. A Russian woman was arrested at the Phuket International Airport over alleged fraud and importing false information into computer systems.

She was taken to the Cyber Crime Investigation Station for further legal actions.

5. Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin arrived in Patong over the past weekend and inspected safety drills.

The safety drills were aimed to upgrade confidence and safety for tourists and residents in Phuket.
