Man Arrested in Patong for Selling Alcohol on Major Buddhist Day

Patong –

A man was arrested in Patong after he was found selling alcohol on a major Buddhist religious holiday.

The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that on Wednesday night (August 2nd) they arrested Mr. Wichat, 56 at a restaurant in Patong. (The restaurant name was not given by police, nor was the full name of the suspect.)

The man was found to be selling alcohol to customers despite rules banning this on religious holidays. He was taken to the Patong Police Station to face charges of selling alcohol on the Khao Phansa Day (Buddhist Lent) which is one of the major Buddhist holidays in which alcohol sales are banned.

He wasn’t the only person arrested for this:

Every Mid Summer in Thailand, usually July or August, is the start of Buddhist Lent, or Vassa. The exact date is the first day of the waning moon of the eighth lunar month.
