Maikhao, Thalang –
Phuket officials are seeking solutions for beach erosion after high tide flooding at beaches in Maikhao, Thalang district.
Our previous story:
Strong waves washed up seawater onto a beach road north of Phuket causing traffic delays last month.
A main road along a beach in Mai Khao in Phuket was temporarily closed due to high tide.
The meeting was held yesterday (August 3rd) at the Phuket Natural Resources and Environment office led by the Phuket Vice Governor Amnuay Pitsuwan.
Mr. Amnuay said, “The high tide road floodimg last month has affected the traffic and risk for beaches and road surface erosion.”
“Since 2020 most beaches shores are at a balanced level. The total distance of beach erosion is 8.26 kilometers. Of those 0.16 kilometers is severely eroded while 5.79 kilometers is medium erosion and 2.30 kilometers is mild erosion.” Mr. Amnuay explained.
“The beach erosion has to be resurveyed and updated until the current time and compared with two years ago. Then we will find solutions to solve beache erosion in the future,” Mr. Amnuay added.
