Phuket-

A second leatherback sea turtle laid eggs on a beach in Thalang which is the second leatherback sea turtle nest in Phuket this year.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that on Saturday (February 24th) at 2:14 A.M. they were notified by hotel staff in the Mai Khao sub-district that they had found the tracks of a sea turtle laying eggs on Mai Khao Beach.

The DMCR arrived at the beach to find the tracks of a mother leatherback sea turtle approximately two meters wide. Inside the nest officials found 137 leatherback sea turtle eggs. Of those 103 were fertile eggs.

The eggs were relocated in the same nearby area with the first set of eggs which were found on the same beach where sea water could not reach the nest. The park officials stated that the baby sea turtles should hatch in about 60 days.
