Phuket Minivan Driver High on Meth Crashes into Five Cars and Four Motorbikes

An intoxicated driver crashed a minivan into five cars and four motorbikes in Karon. He tried to speed away but crashed into a power pole.

The Karon Police told the Phuket Express that they were notified of the incident at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday (January 30th) on the Patak Road in Karon. They and the Phuket Express arrived at the scene to find five damaged cars and four damaged motorbikes. Four people had sustained minor injuries.

The hit and run minivan taxi driver was stopped by police in front of a hotel in Karon. The minivan had crashed into a power pole. The minivan driver was identified by police as Mr. Russalan Jitlang, 30. A methamphetamine pill was also found inside the minivan. He admitted to the police that in the morning he took one methamphetamine pill.

There were no passengers inside the minivan because they had already been dropped off at a hotel. The minivan crashed into a vehicle before trying to escape and then crashed into another vehicle.

The driver was taken to the Karon Police Station to face charges of illegal possession of a Category 1 Drug and driving after taking methamphetamine pills. The Phuket Land Transport Office has yet to state if further legal action would be taken against the minivan driver.
