Phuket Vegetarian Festival Officially Begins after Go Teng Pole Raised

The Phuket Vegetarian festival has officially begun after the Go Teng Pole was raised this past weekend.

At 5:09 P.M. on Saturday (October 14th), more than 40 Chinese Shrines raised the ‘Go Teng’ Pole. The Go Teng pole is the sign of the beginning of the vegetarian festival which is raised one day before the vegetarian festival. The ceremony is welcoming the Nine Emperor Gods.

Vegetarians believe that joining in the Go Teng Poles raising will bring good luck before they start their vegetarian fast for nine days from Sunday (October 15th) to October 23rd, 2023.

The largest ceremony was at the Jui Tui Tao Bo Keang Chinese Shrine which is in Soi Puthorn on the Ranong Road in Talad Nuea sub-district, Mueang Phuket.

The new Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat led the event. Many local Thais and foreign tourists took part in the event.
