Phuket Man Arrested for Stealing Over 227,000 Baht in Cannabis and Cash

Chalong –

A Thai man was arrested in Phuket after he stole cannabis, cannabis edibles, and cash worth in total 227,000 baht.

The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that on Sunday (September 24th) they arrested Mr. Duangwan Sawangjit, 42 from Ubon Ratchathani. He was arrested at a hut in Soi Wassana, Rawai.

Seized from him was cannabis, cannabis cookies, cannabis brownies, and cash, altogether valued at about 227,000 baht, or over 6000 USD. Duangwan was taken to the Chalong Police Station to face charges of theft.

The Phuket Express notes that the Chalong Police did not mention where Duangwan stole those items from. Cannabis was decriminalized in Thailand in 2022, but the new government has vowed to end recreational use despite thousands of cannabis shops open across the country now, many in tourist areas like Phuket.
