A male body missing both his head and hands has been found floating near the Phi Phi Islands in Krabi.
The Krabi Marine Police told the Phuket Express that they were notified of the gruesome find over the past weekend by the Hat Nopparat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park staff.
First responders arrived at the scene about 500 meters to the west of the Phi Phi Lay Island. The male body was beginning to decompose and his head and hands were missing. Tattoos saying ‘Father’ and ‘Mother’ were found on the back of one of his shoulders.
Police believe that the man died at least five days before his body was found and was believed to be of Asian descent. His cause of death and identity is under investigation by relevant authorities.
This isn’t the first recent body discovered floating in Thai waters.
Just a few weeks prior, a local fisherman was found floating deceased in the sea near Thalang in what police deemed was an accident while fishing alone.
Last month, a Russian tourist was found floating in the sea deceased near Patong after allegedly getting knocked off his feet by a wave and getting washed away while taking a selfie.
In March of this year a Romanian man who had gone missing while diving and in which authorities spent almost two months searching for was found deceased in the sea.
