Koh Siray:
Officials from Bangkok came down to follow up on an estimated 100,000 kilograms of garbage being dumped on Koh Siray for more than 20 years.

Yesterday, (December 1st), the Director General of the Department of Marine and Coastal resources (DMCR), Mr. Attaphon Jaroenchansa came down from Bangkok to investigate the issue.
Mr. Attaphon told the Phuket Express “Most residents are Myanmar nationals who rent rooms and live in the mangrove forest area. In the past, the Rasssada Municipality collected garbage in the area but there is still much garbage left.”
“Most of the garbage is being dumped in the water around the migrants living places. Everyone must help to put garbage in bins or else law enforcement officers wil need to enforce this with legal action,” Mr. Attaphon added.
The Rassada Mayor Mr. Nakarain Yorsangrat told the Phuket Express “We held a big cleaning day in the area yesterday. We will also hire waste management companies to remove all garbage from this area for a short term solution. However for the long term solution, we will control migrant workers who live in this area as there are too many and they are not following waste disposal laws.”
