Old Phuket Prison starts to be demolished to be turned into a public park

The Old Phuket Prison has started to be demolished and is going to be turned into a new public park in Phuket Town.

The New Phuket Provincial Prison in the Sri Soonthorn sub-district has officially opened after two years with prisoners fully moved in.

The old Phuket Prison in Phuket Town will be turned into a public park with parking areas.

The Phuket Governor Naroong Woonciew and the President of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation (PPAO) Mr. Rewat Areerob inspected the demolishment which was started earlier this week.

The Old Phuket Prison is located on Damrong Road in the Talad Yai sub-district, Mueang Phuket district. The place is in the middle of the city and is on a 40 Rai plot of land.

The exact cost and length of time of the project is not clear.
