Meanwhile, Phuket governor Narong Woonsiew and related agencies held a meeting to discuss and follow up on the progress of solutions and repairs on Highway 4029 or Patong Hill Road. According to initial discussion, a temporary road repair would be conducted with piling installation and wall barrier construction under a budget of 4.9 million baht.

The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) also accelerated the plan of the “Kathu-Patong” road tunnel to solve landslide problems. The project is expected to be fully operated for public service in 2027.

The tunnel will be 3.98 kilometers long to facilitate drivers traveling between two districts as well as to alleviate traffic and accidents on Highway Road 4029. The construction will also solve the landslide problem and become an evacuation area in case of disasters.

As of Sunday, the road is closed for all vehicles and only available by foot. Patong Municipality Authorities has arranged a shuttle service from Patong City sign – Patong Firefighter Station between 07:00 AM. and 8:00 PM.
