Patong warns residents and businesses that no fireworks and floating lanterns are allowed

Patong, Phuket –

The Patong Municipality has warned the public that no fireworks or floating lanterns are allowed for any event, unless special approval is given by Patong officials, with punishment strictly being enforced.

The Patong Municipality today (May 18th) has announced, “Any kind of fireworks or floating lanterns are NOT allowed in any Patong area.”

“Any violation could see one imprisoned for up to three years or fined up to 60,000 baht or both. ”

The Phuket Express notes that it is not entirely clear what led to the warning, but the rule has been in effect for an extended period of time and is especially enforced around Loy Krathong each year.
