Thailand’s tropical holiday island of Koh Samui is promoting medical tourism with its new fifth hospital. The new healthcare center is expected to enhance tourists’ confidence and benefit Samui’s neighboring islands of Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao.
Mr. Wichawut Jinto, governor of Surat Thani province, proudly presided over an official opening ceremony of the Wattanapat Samui Hospital on Saturday, February 18th.
The facility is the fifth medical institution in Koh Samui, with a bed capacity of 380 beds, multiple specialized personnel, and cutting-edge equipment. The hospital accepts patients from Koh Samui as well as from its nearby islands of Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao.
Governor Wichawut stated that the new fifth hospital will build trust and draw more foreign tourists to Koh Samui. This is in line with Surat Thani province’s tourism policy of transforming the island into a “wellness destination,” Wichawut stated.
“Koh Samui not only offers high-quality tourism experiences and beautiful natural attractions, it also places importance on wellness and health activities,” The governor stated.
Last year, the number of arrivals to Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan, and Koh Tao rebounded strongly, increasing three-fold compared to the pandemic period, said Wichawut. The three islands expect to see this year’s number triple that of last year’s, he added.
