Fifty-nine baby leatherback sea turtles have successfully hatched and headed into the sea in the Takua Thung district.
The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that a mother leatherback sea turtle laid 83 eggs on January 28th, 2023, on Bang Kwan Beach in the Kok Kloi sub-district.
On Sunday (March 26th) 59 baby leatherback sea turtles successfully hatched from their eggs. The baby turtles then headed back to their home in the sea. Twenty eggs did not hatch. Four of the baby turtles sadly died after hatching.
