Wichit-
A large restaurant overlooking Ao Yon beach in Phuket was gutted by fire on the morning of 18 September 2026, with preliminary estimates putting the damage at more than 500,000 baht.
Police and firefighters were alerted at 11:56 a.m. after local residents reported flames at Zodiad restaurant on Ao Yon–Khao Khat Road. Pol. Lt. Col. Watcharakorn Suwan, deputy investigation officer at Wichit Police Station and crews from the Wichit Municipality Fire Department, rushed to the scene.
The three-storey and two-storey stepped building, located directly in front of a roadside hotel, was already well alight when emergency teams arrived. Strong winds fanned the flames, accelerating the blaze and raising fears it could spread to neighbouring structures. Firefighters concentrated their efforts on containing the fire, bringing it under control after more than 30 minutes of continuous water application.
Inspection afterwards confirmed that the restaurant’s structure and all contents inside had been completely destroyed. Authorities said the total loss exceeded 500,000 baht. Early indications point to an electrical short circuit as the most likely cause, though forensic science officers are still examining the site to establish the precise origin of the fire.
