Phuket –
Authorities in Phuket have launched a sweeping campaign to regulate cannabis businesses, hoping to raise industry standards, ensure compliance with the law, and protect both residents and tourists. This combines strict enforcement with consultation from business operators to develop fairness and safety.

Deputy Governor Pol. Lt. Col. Khetarat Chansilp, acting as security advisor to the Interior Ministry, to lead inspections of cannabis shops in Koh Kaew. The team checked both licensed and unlicensed businesses to ensure compliance.
Among the findings was one shop selling cannabis without a license, along with violations involving cannabis-infused food products and possession of “kief”, a concentrated form of cannabis flower rich in trichomes. Under Thai law, cannabis extracts and kief are classified as Category 5 narcotics if they contain more than 0.2% THC by weight without proper authorization, medical prescription, or FDA approval. Samples will be sent for laboratory testing.

Officials stressed that enforcement will be uniform and impartial. Any business operating without a license, or continuing after license revocation, will face legal action.
Deputy Governor Khetarat stated: “The inspections are not only about arrests or prosecutions. They are part of a broader effort to bring cannabis businesses into a lawful system, ensuring fairness for compliant operators and protecting the public.”
