UPDATE: Road Contractor to be Charged After Fatal Drain Accident in Wichit

Phuket-

A road contractor will face charges of reckless conduct causing death and will be filed under Thai law, said Wichit Police. Meanwhile the drainage pits have been covered.

Our previous story:

An accident in Phuket has claimed the life of a 19‑year‑old food delivery rider after his motorcycle plunged into an uncovered drainage pipe along Chao Fah Tawan Tok Road in Wichit.

Now for the update:

Witnesses and CCTV footage confirmed that the rider’s motorcycle flipped violently after dropping into the open drain, throwing him onto the road. He was rushed to Dibuk Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Mr. Teerapat, a student at a technical college in Thalang, had been assisting his mother with food deliveries before heading to class.

The Phuket Highway District Office has since covered the drainage pit and issued condolences to the victim’s family.

Local administrators and highway officials expressed sorrow over the incident, pledging stricter safety measures at construction sites.

Police investigators are summoning the contractor responsible for the drainage project. If negligence is proven, specifically failure to secure the drain cover, charges of reckless conduct causing death will be filed under Thai law.
