Phuket Authorities Arrest Suspect, Seize Firearms at Reservoir

Phuket –

Phuket officials have launched a swift operation following public complaints of firearms being carried and discharged near Klong Kata Reservoir, a popular area along the new road connecting Chalong and Patong in Mueang Phuket District. Residents had raised concerns that such activity posed a danger and created fear in the community.

Under the direction of Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom, Deputy Governor Pol. Lt. Col. Khetarat Chansilp, and Acting Provincial Clerk Siwatch Rawangkul, a special administrative task force was dispatched to investigate. The operation was led by Provincial Defense Chief Akkara Suwattikul, assisted by Jiradet Burarak and Panjapong Boonchan, together with volunteer defense members. They were joined by Mueang Phuket District officials under Deputy District Chief Hirun Hidchan.

Authorities successfully apprehended one male suspect and seized multiple weapons and ammunition, including:

  • A homemade short-barrel shotgun (12 gauge)
  • A homemade long-barrel shotgun (12 gauge)
  • A registered .22 caliber rifle
  • 24 rounds of ammunition

Preliminary charges against the suspect include illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, illegal drug use (crystal methamphetamine), and driving under the influence of narcotics. Officials noted that while the .22 caliber rifle was legally registered, its use and possession will be further scrutinized to ensure compliance with licensing conditions.

The suspect and confiscated evidence have been handed over to Chalong Police Station for formal investigation and prosecution. Authorities explained that the crackdown reflects their commitment to public safety and swift response to community concerns.
