Rassada –
Phuket City police intensified their crackdown on illegal weapons during a late-night security checkpoint, arresting two young suspects in possession of a homemade firearm and ammunition.
This week, officers from Phuket City Police Station set up a checkpoint along Yaowarat–Songkhla Road. Five people identified as “at-risk” were entered into the police database, while three motorcycles were impounded for verification. One knife was also confiscated.

The most significant discovery came when officers detained a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman carrying a short-barrel homemade shotgun and nine rounds of 12-gauge ammunition. To protect personal privacy, police withheld the suspects’ names.
Both individuals were charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as carrying a weapon in public without justification. They were transferred to Phuket City Police investigators for legal proceedings.
