Phuket City Police mounted a late-night checkpoint to deter crime, leading to the arrest of a 25-year-old man carrying a firearm and ammunition, along with the seizure of four illegally modified motorcycles.
Between 1:00 and 2:30 a.m. on August 27th, officers from the Phuket City Police conducted a crime-prevention operation near Satree Phuket School on Damrong Road. The checkpoint targeted suspicious individuals and vehicles in the area.
During the operation, police documented the profiles of 10 youths, searched 25 individuals, inspected five cars, and checked 25 motorcycles. The most significant arrest was of a man identified only as “Mr. M,” aged 25, who was found in possession of a handgun, 15 rounds of ammunition, and a holster. He now faces charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as carrying a weapon in public without valid reason.
In addition, officers impounded four motorcycles that had been altered with loud exhaust systems and other modifications. Police stated that such vehicles often cause public disturbance and can be linked to criminal activity.
The suspect and seized evidence were transferred to Phuket City Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities stated that the operation was part of ongoing measures to curb crime and address the nuisance caused by modified motorbikes in urban areas.
