The Phuket Juvenile and Family Court has ordered the detention of a 12‑year‑old Myanmar girl for 30 days at a provincial juvenile observation and protection center following an assault on a Thai student.

Phuket Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom has directed local authorities to step in and provide urgent support following a violent incident at Cherngtalay Wittayakom School in Thalang District. The order came after a 14‑year‑old female student was injured in a physical altercation on campus in which a video has gone viral in social media.
Now for the update:
The incident occurred at Cherngtalay Wittayakom School, where the girl allegedly attacked a Thai classmate. The victim’s guardian filed a police complaint, leading investigators from Cherngtalay Police Station to formally charge the girl with assault on August 10th, 2026. The charges were presented in the presence of a provincial prosecutor, a psychologist, and a representative requested by the child.
On August 11th, investigators brought the girl before the Phuket Juvenile and Family Court within the required 24‑hour period. The court reviewed her age, the legality of the charge process, and whether her treatment complied with juvenile law. Police argued that the girl posed a serious risk to others and cited additional concerns, including the recent dismissal of her parents from employment.
After considering the evidence, the court ruled that the girl should be held for 30 days during the investigation at the Phuket Juvenile Observation and Protection Center. Under Thai law, investigators may request extensions if the inquiry is not completed, with each extension lasting up to 15 days and limited to two requests.
Once the case reaches its conclusion, authorities plan to transfer the girl to the Immigration Bureau for further legal proceedings regarding her legal status in Thailand.
