Police in Chalong have arrested a Myanmar woman accused of working illegally at a local grocery store, in violation of her work permit.
The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that the arrest followed a tip-off from residents who reported that a foreign worker was handling sales and payments at the shop. Investigators organized an undercover purchase to confirm the allegations.
During the operation, officers observed the woman selling goods, accepting cash, and giving change to customers. Banknotes used in the sting were later found in her apron pocket.
She presented her passport and work permit, which authorized her only for employment as a “laborer.” Retail sales and cashier duties were not permitted. The suspect admitted to performing sales tasks under the employment of a Thai national, who was not present during the raid.
Police charged her with “working outside the scope of her permit” and seized documents linked to the employer for further investigation. She was taken into custody along with the evidence for legal proceedings.
