Ten People Arrested in Patong with Illegal Cannabis and Contraband Worth 200,000 Baht

Phuket –

Phuket officials have intensified their crackdown on illicit trade, arresting ten Thai and Myanamr suspects and confiscating cannabis, e-cigarettes, and untaxed cigarettes valued at over 200,000 baht.

Officials told the Phuket Express that acting on complaints, the team raided Bangla Road in Patong, where unlicensed sales of cannabis and contraband tobacco products were reported.

Authorities confirmed the allegations, detaining five men and five women—both Thai and Myanmar nationals. The seized items included cannabis, vaping devices, and untaxed cigarettes. All suspects were handed over to Patong Police Station for prosecution.

One Myanmar national faces additional charges related to cannabis sales. He was accused of:

  • Selling or processing controlled herbs without authorization, under Sections 46 and 78 of the Thai Traditional Medicine Wisdom Protection and Promotion Act (1999).
  • Working illegally as a foreign national, in violation of the Royal Decree on the Management of Foreign Workers (2017).
