Authorities Conduct Legal Compliance Check at Patong’s Chabad House

Phuket –

Authorities in Phuket have carried out a coordinated inspection of business operations in Patong, aiming to ensure compliance with Thai law while safeguarding constitutional freedoms.

One of the sites inspected was Chabad House, located in Patong. Officials confirmed that the building is licensed as a restaurant and club, with facilities including dining areas, a banquet hall, religious spaces, accommodation for religious leaders, and a rooftop activity area. Licenses for food service and alcohol sales were also in place.

During the inspection, officers noted donation boxes inside the premises. Management explained that contributions are used for public benefit activities. Authorities have tasked relevant agencies with reviewing whether such fundraising falls under the Charitable Solicitations Control Act of 1944, which regulates public fundraising, large-scale donation drives, and online solicitations. Any violations will be addressed under the law.

The inspection also confirmed that the site is used for Jewish religious ceremonies. Under Thailand’s 2017 Constitution, individuals are guaranteed freedom of religion and the right to conduct religious practices, provided they do not conflict with national security, public order, or morality. Officials said that ongoing monitoring will ensure activities remain within legal boundaries.

In addition, authorities will investigate issues related to land ownership and corporate shareholding structures. If evidence emerges of illegal land acquisition, nominee arrangements, or other violations, strict legal action will follow.
