Phuket –
Police at Phuket International Airport arrested a 27‑year‑old male South African man after security officers discovered six rounds of ammunition and a firearm magazine hidden inside his luggage during an outbound baggage screening.
The Sakoo Police told the Phuket Express that authorities said the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Saturday night (July 25th) when airport security staff flagged the suspicious items during an X‑ray check in the international departures hall. Officers from Sakhu Police Station were immediately called to the scene.
The suspect, identified only as Mr. Morne, was taken into custody along with the seized ammunition and magazine. Police confirmed that no firearm was found in his possession.
Morne was escorted to Sakhu Police Station, where investigators formally charged him under Thai firearms and ammunition laws. Officials stated that his rights were explained and the South African Embassy was notified of the arrest. However he did not release any statement as of press time.
