Authorities in Phuket have intensified efforts to regulate the island’s jet ski industry, targeting unlicensed operators and nominee businesses in a sweeping enforcement campaign.
On Saturday (July 25th), Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom assigned Deputy Governor Romdon Hayiawa to lead the operation, joined by Adul Raluekmul, Director of the Phuket Regional Marine Office, Teerapong Phannak, Senior Vessel Inspector, and Marine Department officials. The team inspected jet ski operators across the province, focusing on vessels without permits, businesses lacking authorization, and ownership structures suspected of using Thai nationals as nominees to conceal foreign control.
The crackdown forms part of Phuket’s broader initiative to dismantle nominee arrangements, which violate Thai law and undermine fair competition. Officials stated that the campaign is to protect national interests, ensure transparency in tourism-related businesses, and strengthen public confidence in the province’s tourism standards.
During the latest operation, authorities identified eight violators under the Navigation in Thai Waters Act, with legal action already underway. Officials confirmed that enforcement will continue, with regular inspections and strict penalties for non-compliant operators.
“Phuket is committed to fair and lawful business practices,” Deputy Governor Romdon said. “This campaign ensures that legitimate operators can thrive while protecting tourists and safeguarding the country’s economic interests.”
