Provincial leaders and law enforcement officials in Phuket convened this week to review progress on national security policies, with a strong emphasis on crime suppression, drug eradication, and safeguarding tourism.
The meeting of the Phuket Provincial Police Oversight Committee, chaired by Governor Chotinarin Kerdsom, brought together senior police officers, committee members, and relevant agencies. The agenda focused on nine key areas of government policy:
- Tackling encroachment on state land
- Combating cybercrime
- Investigating nominee businesses
- Suppressing narcotics
- Preventing money laundering
- Addressing local influential figures
- Resolving informal debt problems
- Enhancing tourist safety
- Integrating security databases with artificial intelligence
Governor Chotinarin praised the “Phuket Eye” smart surveillance system, which links more than 7,700 CCTV cameras in its initial phase. The system uses AI-driven analytics to strengthen monitoring, prevention, and incident response, hoping to boost public confidence and protect both residents and visitors.
The governor also pointed out the province’s commitment to the national campaign “Destroy Drugs, Defeat Criminals”, stressing a coordinated approach across prevention, suppression, rehabilitation, and data integration to achieve sustainable solutions.
Police Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum reported on recent operations, including crime prevention, narcotics crackdowns, and measures to safeguard lives and property. He discussed ongoing investigations into land encroachment, with 39 cases already prosecuted, and urged agencies to accelerate inspections to ensure fair and effective law enforcement.
The collective goal: to elevate Phuket’s security standards, reinforce public trust, and ensure the island remains a safe destination for international tourism.
