A fisherman in Phuket had an unexpected encounter while casting his line near Koh Maphrao on Monday morning. At around 9:30 a.m., he spotted a monkey struggling to stay afloat in the middle of the bay.

The animal appeared to be exhausted after swimming a long distance, likely from Koh Sirey, more than five kilometers away.

Realizing the monkey was in danger of drowning, the fisherman quickly maneuvered his boat to help. He managed to bring the animal safely aboard and later released it on the opposite shore, ensuring it reached land unharmed.

The unusual sight of a monkey braving open waters shows both the resilience of wildlife and the risks they face when venturing far from their natural habitats. Thanks to the fisherman’s timely intervention, the animal survived what could have been a fatal journey.
