Phuket –
The Thalang Police have arrested a 29‑year‑old man accused of repeatedly stealing women’s and men’s underwear, along with other valuables, in a string of bizarre thefts that unsettled the local community.
The Thalang Police told the Phuket Express that the suspect, identified only as Mr. Jang, was taken into custody following an investigation led by Thalang Police Station’s detective unit under the command of senior officers from the Phuket Provincial Police. Authorities tracked his movements after multiple reports of stolen undergarments in the area.
The arrest took place at a rented room in Thepkrasattri Subdistrict and later extended to Robinson Thalang shopping mall, where officers seized extensive evidence. Among the items recovered were:
- A white Honda PCX motorcycle used in the crimes
- Clothing worn during the thefts
- More than 140 pieces of stolen underwear belonging to both men and women
- Jewelry, wallets, ID cards, vehicle keys, collectible coins, and other personal belongings believed to have been taken from victims
During questioning, Mr. Jang admitted to stealing underwear since childhood, claiming he used the items to sniff and gratify himself. He confessed that despite attempts to seek treatment, he could not resist the urge to continue stealing.
Police have charged him with theft and receiving stolen property. Investigators are now working to trace the rightful owners of the recovered items and to determine whether the suspect is connected to other unsolved theft cases in the district.
