Phuket police arrested a 20-year-old man after he attempted to flee a security checkpoint in Thalang District, leading officers on a reckless chase before being apprehended with a firearm in his vehicle.
Officers from Thalang Police Station were conducting a routine security checkpoint outside the station on Thepkrasattri Road. When signaled to stop, the suspect, identified only as “Jit,” accelerated away, refusing to comply with police orders.
The pursuit continued along the route toward Ton Sai Waterfall, during which the suspect’s vehicle collided with a motorcycle, causing it to overturn. He then attempted to evade capture by making several sharp turns, including a detour through the entrance of Thalang Hospital, before losing control near the waterfall road. Officers quickly surrounded and detained him.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a homemade firearm and ammunition. Police charged the suspect with multiple offenses, including illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition without authorization, carrying a weapon in public without permission, and driving in a manner that endangered public safety.
