Phuket Launches “Operation 90 Days” to Combat Narcotics and Build Safer Communities

Phuket –

Phuket province has officially launched Operation 90 Days, a sweeping anti-narcotics campaign designed at eradicating drug activity and strengthening community safety. This runs from July 1 to September 30, 2026, and was kicked off with a ceremonial deployment of joint task forces at the Mahisornpakdee Auditorium, Phuket Provincial Hall.

Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom, who also serves as Director of the Phuket Provincial Narcotics Control Center, presided over the ceremony. He was joined by senior officials including Vice Governor Khetarat Chansilp, Rear Admiral Praphan Srisuwipa of the Internal Security Operations Command, Provincial Police Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum, and representatives from military, police, administrative, and security agencies.

The event symbolized a unified commitment to tackle narcotics through integrated strategies combining prevention, suppression, rehabilitation, and community empowerment.

Governor Chotnarin said that drug suppression is now a provincial priority. The operation seeks to transform vulnerable villages into “drug-free safe communities” within three months, eliminating both dealers and users.

He noted that even before the official launch, coordinated raids in Phuket Town had already resulted in three arrests, showing the effectiveness of joint enforcement. Beyond arrests, authorities plan to dismantle entire networks by linking intelligence with neighboring provinces and national security agencies to disrupt supply chains at every level.

Authorities will conduct monthly reviews to adapt strategies to evolving conditions. Governor Chotnarin stressed that narcotics fuel crime, social unrest, and family breakdowns. Reducing drug-related problems, he said, will enhance public safety, restore community confidence, and reinforce Phuket’s reputation as a world-class tourist destination.

Provincial Police Commander Sinlert outlined measures to intensify law enforcement, including:

  • Pursuing major drug-related offenses
  • Executing outstanding arrest warrants
  • Prosecuting cases of conspiracy and money laundering
  • Seizing and freezing assets linked to narcotics

At the same time, drug users will be directed into rehabilitation programs to prevent relapse and reintegration into criminal activity.

Following the ceremony, Governor Chotnarin led the deployment of patrol vehicles and joint task forces into target areas. The mobilization served as a visible demonstration of Phuket’s determination to protect lives, property, and public order, while reassuring residents and visitors alike of the province’s commitment to safety.
