Phuket –
Immigration authorities in Phuket have revoked the visa of a 33-year-old British man after he was arrested for assaulting a local tuk-tuk driver, citing his actions as a threat to public safety.
Pol. Col. Jaroenpong Khantilo, spokesperson for Immigration Division 6 told the Phuket Express that the incident occurred in the early hours of July 2nd when police in Patong received a report from a 48-year-old driver, identified as Mr. Chalor. He alleged that he was attacked by a foreign man outside a hotel on Nanai Road around 5:00 a.m. The assailant fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.
Investigators later identified the suspect only as Mr. Shane, a British national legally residing in Thailand on a temporary visa. Authorities determined that his violent conduct constituted a breach of Thai law and posed a danger to society.
Under the Immigration Act of 1979, Section 12(7), foreigners who demonstrate behavior that threatens public order or safety are considered prohibited persons. Immigration Division 6, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Chutharet Yingyongdamrongsakul, ordered the cancellation of Mr. Shane’s visa under Section 36 of the Act.
The suspect was taken into custody and transferred to the Patong Police Station for official processing before being moved to the Phuket Immigration Detention Center, where deportation proceedings will follow.
