Phuket-
Customs officials at Phuket International Airport, working in coordination with law enforcement agencies, arrested two Uzbek nationals after discovering large quantities of cannabis hidden inside their luggage as they attempted to leave the country.
Authorities reported that the suspects, both 26 years old, were preparing to board outbound flights when their bags were flagged during routine x-ray screening. Upon inspection, officers uncovered vacuum-sealed packages of dried cannabis flowers, cannabis resin, and processed cannabis products concealed within multiple suitcases.
- Suspect One was found carrying 30 vacuum-sealed packs of dried cannabis flowers weighing 9.8 kilograms, along with 14 bars of processed cannabis totaling 1.03 kilograms.
- Suspect Two was found with another 30 packs of cannabis flowers weighing 9.8 kilograms, eight bags of cannabis resin weighing 4.1 kilograms, and assorted processed cannabis products weighing approximately 2 kilograms.
Both men admitted ownership of the luggage and consented to the search, which confirmed the contraband matched the suspicious images detected by airport scanners.
Officials charged the suspects with attempting to export goods without customs clearance under the Customs Act B.E. 2560 (2017), as well as violations of Thailand’s Narcotics Control laws and the Ministry of Public Health’s regulations on controlled herbal substances (cannabis).
The two men, along with the seized cannabis products, were handed over to investigators at Sakhu Police Station for further legal proceedings.
