Phuket –
Deputy Transport Minister Sapphasit Boonyamanee led a comprehensive inspection in Phuket today, reinforcing safety standards across land, sea, and air transport services to boost tourist confidence during the high season.

The first stop was Patong Beach, where the minister examined jet ski operations. Authorities focused on unlicensed vessels, expired permits, and unauthorized services encroaching on swimming zones. Patong currently hosts around 170 jet skis operated by more than 50 businesses, with average rental fees of 1,500 baht per 30 minutes. Officials stressed that all vessels must be properly registered to ensure tourist safety.

Phuket has categorized its 384 licensed jet skis into four groups: fully registered operators at Patong, Kata, Karon, Kamala, Bang Tao, and Naka Island; businesses pending provincial approval; operators endorsed by provincial meetings; and illegal vessels outside the system. Records show that since 2004, the number of authorized jet skis has steadily increased, with the latest addition of 62 vessels in 2026.
During the visit, the minister also met lifeguards, focusing on strict enforcement of red-flag warnings during rough seas. With an estimated 5,000 tourists visiting Patong daily in peak season, he urged vigilance to prevent accidents that could damage Phuket’s reputation. Patong Municipality has expanded CCTV coverage and plans to install more lighting along the beach, while ATV patrols will enhance nighttime safety.

The delegation later inspected passenger boat services and the Phuket Deep Sea Port, assessing readiness to accommodate cruise ships and strengthen maritime safety. At the Kathu tunnel entrance on Highway 4029, officials reviewed progress on the Phuket Expressway Project (Phase 1: Kathu–Patong), a key initiative to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity.
The mission concluded at Phuket International Airport, where taxi services were scrutinized. The minister instructed operators to comply with regulations and improve service quality, ensuring safe and reliable transport for both residents and international visitors.
