Phuket –
On June 24th, 2026, Phuket provincial officials joined forces with multiple agencies to inspect Freedom Beach in Mueang District, hoping to safeguard public land and ensure equal access for all visitors. The operation is part of the government’s urgent policy to reclaim and regulate public spaces while enhancing transparency in tourism management.

The inspection was led by Pol. Lt. Col. Khetarat Chansilp, Deputy Governor of Phuket, alongside Siwatch Rawangkul, Mueang District Chief, Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum, Phuket Provincial Police Commander, and Samphan Meesit, Director of the Phuket Forest Center. Officials from the Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO) and forestry units also participated, showing the importance of Freedom Beach as a contested site in land disputes and public access debates.

Samphan Meesit announced that the pathway to Freedom Beach will be fully renovated and landscaped to allow free pedestrian access. He stated that no fees will be charged to enter the beach, reinforcing its status as a public space and that there would be no “bouncers” or other figures to intimidate tourists into paying money to visit the public beach.

Authorities also addressed safety concerns regarding ATV services in the area. Due to steep terrain and frequent accidents, ATV use will be strictly limited to emergencies, such as transporting injured or fainting tourists. Future regulations and official fee structures will be introduced to ensure safety and prevent exploitation.

Phuket officials stressed their commitment to close monitoring of beach access management, with a focus on transparency and fairness. The initiative is to prevent new forms of profiteering while guaranteeing that Freedom Beach remains open and equitable for all.
