Patong –
A 37 year-old Icelandic man was arrested after an attempt of theft from a female taxi driver in Patong.
Patong Police Station reported that this week they successfully apprehended a foreign suspect following a theft incident involving a local taxi driver.
A female taxi driver filed a complaint stating that she had picked up a male European passenger from Patong Hospital. The passenger requested to be taken to a hotel in Wichit. While passing the area near the Suwan Khiri Wong Temple in Patong, he allegedly reached over and grabbed the driver’s handbag, which contained her mobile phone, cash, and personal documents, from the front seat.
The driver continued driving until reaching Soi Khuan Yang Charoen, where she stopped the vehicle and attempted to retrieve her bag. The suspect resisted, refusing to return the belongings. In desperation, the driver honked the horn to attract attention from bystanders. With the help of concerned citizens, the tourist eventually surrendered the handbag and fled the scene.
Police later identified and detained the suspect as Mr. Johann, a 37-year-old Icelandic national. He was taken to Patong Police Station for questioning and further legal proceedings.
Authorities praised the quick thinking of the victim and the intervention of local residents, stating the importance of community vigilance in ensuring public safety.
