Phuket police arrested a British man on Monday morning after he allegedly drove under the influence and crashed into traffic barriers at the busy Chalong Five-Way Roundabout.
The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that on Wednesday morming (June 24th) traffic officers from Chalong Police Station were managing rush-hour flow when they noticed a white car speeding recklessly into the roundabout. The vehicle struck barriers and traffic cones, causing damage, before fleeing toward Wiset Road in Rawai.
Police pursued the car and managed to intercept it at the Suksan 2 traffic lights. The driver identified only as Mr. Islam, a British national, was taken into custody and escorted to Chalong Police Station.
A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 184 milligrams percent, well above Thailand’s legal limit. Officers filed an arrest record and charged the man with offenses related to drunk driving and property damage.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Investigators are continuing to review the case and determine additional charges.
