UPDATE: Koh Phangan Police to Request to Revoke Bail for British Motorbike Rider who Allegedly Killed Beloved Thai Doctor in Hit and Run

Phangan police are preparing to petition the Koh Samui Provincial Court to revoke bail for a British national accused of causing the death of a respected Thai physician in a high-speed collision. Authorities fear the suspect may attempt to flee the country after being hit with a total of 11 charges spanning traffic offenses and illegal business operations and after the doctor has died.

A serious road accident on Koh Phangan has left Associate Professor Dr. Teerasak, widely known as “Doctor Ton”, in critical condition after being struck by a British motorcyclist who fled and later tested positive for cocaine.

Investigators submitted a custody request to Koh Samui Provincial Court and strongly opposed bail, citing the severity of the charges and the risk of flight.

The Thai medical community is in mourning following the death of Associate Professor Dr. Teerasak Kaew-omttawong, a respected specialist in respiratory diseases and critical care medicine, who passed away peacefully.

Now for the update:

Pol. Col. Apichat confirmed that investigators will file a motion on June 8th, citing the upgraded charge of reckless driving causing death, a serious offense carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The charge replaces the earlier allegation of reckless driving causing serious injury, following the victim’s death.

The suspect, identified as Mr. Wilcock, was located at the residence he had registered with the court but requested to postpone his meeting with investigators until June 8th, stating he would appear with legal counsel. Police say the delay has heightened concerns about flight risk.

Beyond the traffic case, Wilcock faces four additional charges linked to his tourism business operations. These include using Thai nominees to hold shares illegally, operating a tour company without authorization, and submitting false statements to officials. The charges stem from case file No. 406/2569, dated May 28.

In total, Wilcock is charged with:

• Seven counts related to the fatal crash, including reckless driving causing death.
• Four counts tied to unlawful tourism business practices.
