Police officers at Bo Phut Police Station on Koh Samui foiled an attempt by a 46‑year‑old Italian man to smuggle heroin into the detention cell where his friend was being held pending deportation. He will now join his friend in prison awaiting trial, sentencing, and eventual deportation himself.
The Bo Phut Police told the Phuket Express that the incident occurred on the evening of June 3rd. Mr. Domenico, an Italian national, arrived at the station carrying a beverage bottle, claiming he wished to visit a friend detained inside. Duty officers noticed the bottle cap was improperly sealed and, upon inspection, discovered a small packet hidden inside. The packet contained 0.33 grams of heroin wrapped in a condom.
The suspect was immediately detained, and investigators coordinated with immigration police to expand the search. A later raid on his rented accommodation in Bo Phut uncovered 12 packets of heroin and crystal methamphetamine concealed in a wardrobe, along with plastic bags used for repackaging.
During questioning, Mr. Domenico confessed to purchasing the drugs from a Thai man known locally as “Pee” in the Mareet area, paying 4,000 baht per transaction. He admitted to using the drugs himself and distributing them among friends. He also revealed that the heroin hidden in the bottle was intended for his detained friend, identified only as “Saga.”
Authorities have charged Mr. Domenico with possession and attempted distribution of Category 1 narcotics (heroin and crystal methamphetamine) with intent to sell, offenses considered serious under Thai law due to their potential to spread among the public. He has been handed over to investigators at Bo Phut Police Station for further legal proceedings.
