Phuket’s Old Prison Site Transformed into Landmark Public Park, Opening This August

Phuket –

Phuket is preparing to unveil a new urban landmark as the redevelopment of the city’s former prison grounds nears completion. The project, now more than 80 percent finished, will introduce the Phuket Old Prison Park, a green oasis designed to serve as both a recreational retreat and a cultural hub.

The Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) of Phuket has led the transformation, envisioning the site as a “new lung” for the city. The park will provide residents and visitors with shaded walkways, open spaces for leisure, and areas dedicated to learning about local history. Beyond its role as a public park, the development wants to encourage creativity and community engagement.

To address traffic and accessibility concerns, the PAO is also constructing an eight‑story parking facility adjacent to the park. With capacity for more than 300 vehicles, the structure is expected to ease congestion and make visits more convenient.

Scheduled to open by late August, the Phuket Old Prison Park represents a blend of heritage preservation and modern urban planning, turning a once‑restricted site into a welcoming space for everyone.
