Krabi –
Krabi authorities have confirmed the recovery of the body of Dutch national Mr. Rob, 61, who tragically drowned while kayaking with his daughter off the coast of southern Thailand.
Our previous story:
Mr. Rob and his daughter were paddling a two-person kayak between Poda Island and the Railay Bay. Caught in heavy rain and rough seas, the pair were not wearing life jackets. Strong waves overturned the kayak, sweeping Mr. Rob away. His daughter was rescued by a passing boat and brought safely to shore.
On Tuesday (May 19th), a local fishing vessel reported sighting a male body floating face down near the Pu Island in Khlong Khanan, Nuea Khlong District. Police, tourist officers, and related agencies responded immediately. The victim was found wearing only black shorts. Relatives later confirmed the deceased was Mr. Borgmann, who had been missing since the accident.
Officials have transferred the body to Krabi Hospital for autopsy and forensic examination to formally establish the cause of death. Provincial authorities pledged full assistance to the family in repatriating the remains to the Netherlands for religious rites.
Meanwhile, Krabi has reiterated safety warnings as the region faces severe weather from May 19–22, with forecasts of heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides. In coastal areas, strong winds and high waves are expected. Authorities have ordered strict enforcement of maritime safety measures, particularly for tourist boats and speedboats. Operators are required to ensure passengers wear life jackets and check weather conditions before departure to prevent further tragedies.
