Police in Phuket have arrested a 29‑year‑old Russian national after discovering a substantial quantity of narcotics including Ketamine, methamphetamine, heroin, and ecstasy, hidden in his luggage during a routine checkpoint inspection.
The Tha Chatchai Police told the Phuket Express that the suspect, identified only as Mr. Gorskii, was traveling on a Phuket–Pattaya interprovincial bus when officers at the Tha Chatchai security checkpoint noticed his suspicious behavior. According to police, he appeared nervous and attempted to push his bag away from himself with his feet as officers approached. He was unable to present a passport when asked, bringing a search of his belongings.
Inside a red‑and‑black shoulder bag, officers found multiple packages containing illicit substances. The seized items included:
- 564.74 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice)
- 471.92 grams of mephedrone
- 129.8 grams of heroin
- 51 grams of ecstasy (MDMA)
- 54.6 grams of amphetamine
- 582 grams of ketamine
- Two mobile phones, one MacBook, and 11,320 baht in cash
The arrest was carried out under the supervision of senior officers from the Provincial Police Region 8 and Phuket Provincial Police, with the Tha Chatchai Police Station’s checkpoint and investigative teams leading the operation.
Authorities have charged him with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, a serious offense under Thai law. Police stated that the case will be expanded to investigate possible networks connected to the suspect.
