Patong
Authorities in Phuket have launched an investigation after a self-storage company in Patong uncovered a cache of firearms and ammunition inside a locker rented by a Swedish national who had failed to pay rent for more than four months.
At around noon on May 13th, 2026, police from Patong Police Station were called to Mespace Self Storage Patong, located within a major shopping center on Rat-U-Thit 200 Year Road. Company representatives reported that locker number 2184, rented under the name Mr. Elmi, a Swedish citizen, had been opened after 120 days of unpaid fees and repeated failed attempts to contact the tenant. Inside, staff discovered five pistols and 100 rounds of ammunition.
Police investigators found four Glock 9mm pistols and one CZ pistol, along with two boxes of 9mm cartridges, each containing 50 rounds. Initial checks confirmed that all weapons bore serial numbers. The firearms and ammunition were seized as evidence.
Authorities are now working to trace the registration details of the weapons and determine whether they were legally owned. The investigation will focus on the origin of the firearms, the circumstances of their storage, and whether any laws were violated.
This discovery has raised concerns about firearm possession and storage practices in tourist-heavy areas such as Patong, where self-storage facilities are commonly used by both locals and foreigners. Police have pledged to pursue the case in accordance with Thai law.
It is unclear if the suspect remains in Thailand and this is under investigation as well.
