Australian Driver Arrested After Dangerous Red-Light Violation in Kamala

Phuket –

An Australian Driver was arrested after a viral video showed a reckless driver running a red light and obstructing traffic at a busy intersection in Kamala.

The Kamala Police told the Phuket Express that they responded to footage circulating on social media recently that captured a black sedan with red stripes blocking the entrance and exit lanes at the Khok Yang Intersection. The driver was seen ignoring traffic signals, causing disruption and endangering other road users.

Authorities identified the driver only as Mr. Wayne, an Australian national. He was taken into custody shortly after the incident. A urine test confirmed that he was not under the influence of drugs.

Police charged the driver under Thailand’s Road Traffic Act:

  • Section 22: Disobeying traffic signals (red light) — fine up to 1,000 baht.
  • Section 70 in conjunction with Section 147: Failing to stop at the designated line when the red light is on — fine up to 1,000 baht.

Mr. Wayne was fined and formally prosecuted under these provisions.
