Phuket provincial officials have stepped up enforcement of public beach regulations, with Deputy Governor Adul Chuthong leading an inspection at Bang Tao Beach in Cherng Talay, Thalang. The operation was conducted under the direction of Governor Nirat Phongsitthithavorn, alongside Provincial Clerk Rungrueng Thimabutr, local administrators, forestry and land officials, and other relevant agencies.
Authorities told the Phuket Express that they have already installed 42 boundary signs marking areas where construction is prohibited, following months of systematic inspections. Several additional sites remain under review and measurement by responsible agencies.
During the latest inspection on Thursday (April 30th), officials checked a restaurant employing 15 staff members, 10 Myanmar nationals, 4 Thais, and 1 Indian worker. Despite tourists continuing to use the venue, authorities cut electricity and water supply to halt unauthorized operations on public land. Evidence is being collected for legal proceedings against those involved.
Deputy Governor Adul stressed that all agencies must act with transparency, fairness, and urgency, particularly in coastal zones. He urged accelerated inspections of remaining areas, especially along the shoreline, to ensure comprehensive enforcement.
Phuket authorities reaffirmed their determination to reclaim public spaces for equal community use, while enhancing the island’s image as a well-managed and sustainable tourism destination. The campaign to regulate beaches and prevent illegal encroachment will continue until all public land is restored for collective benefit.
