Andaman Health Hub Project Approved to Transform Phuket into a Global Wellness Destination

Phuket –

The Thai Cabinet has approved the ambitious “Andaman Health Hub Project” led by Prince of Songkla University (PSU), with a budget of 6.43 billion baht and a four-year implementation timeline from 2027 to 2030. The initiative wants to elevate Phuket and the wider Andaman region into a future-oriented health city, addressing critical shortages in healthcare personnel while enhancing medical services for both residents and international visitors.

The project encompasses five major activities designed to build a comprehensive health ecosystem:

  • Andaman Health College – training new generations of healthcare professionals.
  • Center for Thai Traditional Medicine – integrating local wisdom with modern practices.
  • Medical Technology Center – advancing diagnostic and laboratory capabilities.
  • Digital Dentistry Center – modernizing dental care with cutting-edge technology.
  • Songklanagarind Hospital Phuket – a flagship facility to deliver advanced medical services.

The centerpiece of the plan is the construction of Songklanagarind Hospital Phuket, with a budget of 4.85 billion baht. Funding will be sourced from 2.9 billion baht in government allocations and 1.93 billion baht from external sources. The hospital will be equipped with modern medical instruments and facilities, and is expected to open its doors in 2030.

The Andaman Health Hub is designed to:

  • Ensure accessible, high-quality healthcare for locals and tourists.
  • Reduce the need to transfer patients with complex conditions to other regions.
  • Position Phuket and the Andaman provinces as a world-class wellness hub.

By combining education, innovation, and infrastructure, the project seeks not only to strengthen Thailand’s healthcare system but also to reinforce Phuket’s reputation as a global destination for medical tourism and holistic well-being.
