The coastal community of Laem Sai in Thalang came alive last night as the province launched its annual “Sit by the Sea, Watch Planes, Enjoy Local Delights @ Laem Sai” festival.
The event, held at Laem Sai Pier, was officially opened by Deputy Governor Suwit Phansengiam, who joined local officials, community leaders and residents.
Running from April 24–25, the festival, now in its fifth consecutive year, was organized by the Thepkrasattri Subdistrict Administrative Organization. Its mission is to strengthen grassroots economic activity by showcasing local resources, culture, and community potential.
The event shows Laem Sai’s unique identity as a traditional fishing village, famous for sea bass farming and its scenic coastal views, including a rare vantage point for watching planes fly overhead at close range.
More than 50 community vendors and local entrepreneurs set up stalls offering regional cuisine, handmade products, and fresh seafood. Stage performances and cultural displays added to the lively atmosphere, drawing both tourists and residents. The festival not only promotes spending within the community but also positions Laem Sai as a destination for cultural tourism.
Organizers explained that the event is more than entertainment, it is a strategic effort to stimulate local commerce, generate income for farmers, producers, and small businesses, and strengthen the tourism supply chain. By encouraging community participation, the festival builds pride in local traditions while creating long-term economic resilience.
With its picturesque setting and distinctive attractions, Laem Sai is being promoted as a potential community tourism hub in Phuket. Officials expect the festival to enhance awareness of the area, attract more visitors, and improve the quality of life for residents through sustainable income opportunities.
